Current Work

For our submission today, I have put together the best photos from my 2 shoots plus a field recording I took the first time. I am not sure if this is my final product (partly depends on feedback!) but it is certainly something to work with for now.

I have turned off the dissolve transitions that I placed between the photos as it made my photos a bit fuzzy for some reason.

Left Behind

As I have already taken some ‘crime scene’ style photos of the homeless area of Lincoln, I decided it would be good to look at photographers that have done similar work.

Jonathan Hollingsworth created a series called ‘Left Behind’ which was about the Mexicans that attempt to cross over into Arizona in Pima County. Jonathan photographed various different belongings that he found, as well as the landscape and autopsy room of the people that died. I find this documentation style of photography interesting as it is like the sort of crime scene photography that pathologists take except it is just for a photography project. It is also interesting to try and work out what has happened to these people and create stories about what happened in their lives that has led them to where they are now. This is something I can apply to my own photography around the area where the homeless people in Lincoln sleep.

Here are some of my favourite photos from Jonathan’s series:

The shoe photo is similar to the ones I took in Lincoln. The vultures represent death and predator vs prey.

What to do next

These are some more of my favourite photos from my shoot (unedited). I am not sure whether to stick with them or whether to change my theme a little to homelessness or silhouettes or just go and take some more. Currently awaiting feedback from Adam and classmates to see what to do.

Heygate Estate

I love the derelict, dead, post-apocalyptic look to the photos. I also like how the sky is used with the photos of the buildings.

It is nice to have a little information next to the photos too.

I look to find an area like this in Lincoln to photograph.

This is my favourite from the collection:

The contrast between the building and sky (harsh and soft) work well together and I may have a go at this myself.

This afternoon I went for a walk along the river in Lincoln and had an attempt at documentary style photography. I tried to take several shots including establishing shots, detail shots and ones that tell a story too.

Here are some of my favourite photos:

I am not yet sure whether to have some or all of the photos in black and white so I will have to play around.

I am also not sure whether to use a field recording to accompany the photos or whether to use a completely different sound with them. I feel it is easier to find sound to match photos I have taken rather than the other way around.
