Simon Roberts

Simon is an award winning British photographer. Simon has made 3 projects that I am particularly interested in: We English; Pierdom and National Property. These are all different landscape projects, involving some similar qualities to what I have been doing.

Something I have noticed about Simon’s work that could be a reason for as to why his photography is so successful is that he takes his landscapes from a height. This gives the photos a much greater visual impact as you can see very far in them, adding a lot more interest.

Here are some of my favourites from the 3 projects:

I love the vastness of all of these photos, the positioning of everything on the beaches and then just simply the landscape in the first photo.

and I had to add this one at the end:

because I have taken one that is fairly similar and could almost be in his photo:

Luca Moretti

I have found a photographer from Pisa, Italy who is categorised as a New Landscape photographer:

I like the soft look to Luca’s photos, as though he has turned the contrast down to make the beaches all look really soft and inviting. I am using his work as inspiration as he has taken photos of a beach near where he is from, which is similar to what I have done. He says that “walking is an essential part of the process” of him taking photos, which is also very similar to me as I got into photography just simply from taking photos on walks with my parents.

Here is one of his photos that I particularly like:

I love how lonely the little sailing boat looks in this photo and how the pastel colours of the sand and sky compliment each other.

I feel as though I have definitely taken some inspiration from Luca overall.
